Comprehensive Lighting Project for Sant Gervasi School

One of our recent standout projects was the comprehensive lighting design for the Sant Gervasi School, which encompassed everything from the preschool classrooms to the outdoor areas and the sports court. Each phase of the project was meticulously designed to provide functional, aesthetic, and safe lighting, thereby enhancing the educational and recreational experience for students and staff.
Phase 1: Preschool Education
For our first project, we were asked to design the lighting for the renovation and remodeling of the preschool classrooms at Escola St. Gervasi. This project encompassed five classrooms, the hallway connecting them, and several service areas. For the classrooms, we used suspended VSETR120B linear fixtures and TROCO215TW spotlights recessed into the drywall ceiling. In the hallways, depending on the type of ceiling, we used either the same TROCO215TW spotlights or suspended VSETR90B linear luminaires. All lighting was specified at a color temperature of 4000K, and we advised the client to achieve an aesthetic and functional layout that would ensure the required lighting levels. A notable aspect of the project was the change in architectural finishes, which were initially presented in shades of blue, beige, and ochre. However, these were modified to lighter tones (gray, white, and light wood) without prior notice, which altered the results of our lighting calculations. Despite the high light levels, the lighting remained uniform and glare-free; however, we recommend that any changes to the finishes be communicated in advance so that lighting studies can be adjusted and misunderstandings avoided.
Phase 2: Lighting for the Elementary School Building
Due to the success of the first project, we were commissioned to design the lighting for the three floors of the elementary school building, which include classrooms, service areas, and hallways. The design followed a similar layout to that of the preschool. For the classrooms, suspended VSETD120N and VSETD90N linear luminaires were used. In the hallways with suspended ceilings, 180-cm-long recessed ARKTIC luminaires and TROCO110TW spotlights were used for localized accent lighting. On the staircases, BH2609NFS wall-mounted luminaires were installed. The restrooms and service areas were illuminated with ALLINR2428BF and ALLINR2459BF downlights according to lighting requirements. All lighting was set to a color temperature of 4000K, ensuring consistency with the preschool’s design and optimizing both technical and aesthetic results.
Phase 3: Outdoor Stair Lighting
We were also asked to install lighting for the exterior emergency staircases in the elementary school building. This project was straightforward and complemented Project 2. BH2609NFS fixtures were installed on the walls, and although the use of a visor-type accessory was recommended to limit light toward the upper hemisphere, it was not used for unknown reasons.
Phase 4: Outdoor Lighting and Court
The most recent project involved improving the lighting in the outdoor areas and on the sports court in front of the elementary school building. For the outdoor areas, we replaced the existing halogen floodlights with MHLX50FA floodlights mounted on the building’s facade, adjusting their placement to ensure better uniformity and soft lighting. For the sports field, MHLX150FA floodlights were installed on the building’s facade and on an existing pole, in compliance with regulations and the client’s specifications.
