LIGHTING AT LA LIBERTAD DEPARTMENTAL STADIUM
Location
Pasto, Colombia
Sports lighting is one of the greatest challenges in outdoor lighting projects. Achieving the illuminance levels required for high-level competitions, ensuring visual comfort for players and spectators, minimizing glare, and optimizing energy consumption are key factors in the success of any sports facility.
The La Libertad Departmental Stadium in Pasto, one of Colombia’s most important sports venues, has undergone a renovation of its lighting system, enabling its facilities to meet the requirements necessary to host top-level competitions.
Project Description
The project involved the installation of 192 1,200-watt RING LED floodlights, equipped with Meanwell drivers and Lumiled chips, providing uniform, efficient lighting that is perfectly suited to the demands of a professional sports facility.
The project significantly improved the stadium’s lighting levels, optimizing visibility on the field and ensuring a high-quality visual experience and television broadcast for both athletes and spectators.
One of the main challenges of the project was to achieve precise light distribution, avoiding shadows and minimizing glare as much as possible—a critical factor in sports facilities where visibility can directly affect player performance.
Furthermore, thanks to the optical precision of the lighting fixtures used and their aiming system, it was possible to minimize light pollution and reduce light emission toward the sky, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the installation.
The result is a stadium equipped to host top-tier competitions, capable of providing the lighting conditions necessary for professional sports and large-scale events.
Technological Evolution: From RING to ELLIPS
The luminaires used in this project were part of the RING family, one of ROBLAN’s flagship sports floodlights for many years. Today, this solution has evolved into our ELLIPS professional line, incorporating new features, greater optical flexibility, and advanced control systems.
ELLIPS has been designed for applications where simply providing light is not enough—where it is necessary to direct the light precisely to the desired spot. This makes it an ideal solution for sports facilities, building facades, monuments, architectural lighting, and large outdoor spaces.
Its versatility makes it suitable for both functional lighting projects and applications that require the creation of visual spectacles, dynamic scenes, and synchronized lighting effects.
